 Confidentiality Who will know that I am receiving therapy for mental health problems.?

Answer

Often clients attend for long term therapy without even their partner, friends, family, work being aware of this. To protect your confidentiality once we have established our time and place of the sessions then outside of the session I will have no contact with you.

I abide by a professional code of confidentiality ( laid down by my professional body FPC ) that requires me to keep confidential all that you say to me, including mention of mental health problems. ( Full details available on request ).

It is good practice to notify your GP that you are receiving therapy but I would only contact them in the rare circumstance where I felt you were in danger of self harm, where your mental health problems were such as suggest harm to you or others.

I abide by the BACP’s ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy and especially it’s terms of confidentiality ( full details available on request) giving you recourse should you be unhappy with my service and unable to resolve your complaint with me personally.
