Our Beginnings

When, in 1998, Age Concern’s Bereavement and Loss service had to end Phoenix Counselling Service began ( hence our name! ). We   are accredited by BACP for individual counselling at our Dagenham practice.

As counsellors and supervisors we offer individual counselling and therapy, to any member of the general public, that is affordable, confidential and professional. We now work with a complete range of issues ( click on the buttons on the left side of this page to view our services in detail ) and across a wide geographical area centred on our counselling service Essex based ( see maps ) with clients and patients coming from all over London and South Essex.

Our Prices

From our original work with bereaved people we are committed to offering counselling to all ages and appreciate the need to keep fees as low as possible, however we receive no grants or subsidies therefore we maintain a sliding scale of fees for treatment, with those paying higher rates enabling us to offer counselling even where income is low.

Your Rights

To ensure we offer a professional service to high standards and to protect your rights we abide by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s ethical framework for good practice in counselling & psychotherapy. All clients have access to appropriate complaints procedures.

We give 1 to 1 counselling, group therapy , training days in anger management, couples or relationship counselling.

Where are we

We can offer sessions at centres in Bethnal Green, Central London, Camden, across East London, a counsellor Barking, Chingford, Higham’s Park, Walthamstow, counselling Ilford, a therapist Hainault, Goodmayes, Dagenham, Forest Gate, into Essex, Southend on Sea, Romford. We are easily reached from the A13, North Circular, M11, Eastern Avenue, A12. Our centres are situated near to railway stations and on main bus routes with parking and accessibility for those with mobility difficulties. ( see maps about a counselling service).

Our Standards We require our counsellors, therapists and associates to hold professional indemnity insurance, to receive proper supervision of their work, to be nearing the end of or have undergone a professional training, to receive appropriate personal therapy. The first step is to attend for an initial consultation, or assessment, with a trained counsellor. Presently the fee for this is £35 - £50, and £15 where income is low. We welcome self referral by e-mail or by phone to 0208 595 9633 or referrals for individual counselling from health professionals GPs, solicitors and other mental health organisations.

Our fees and standards protect your rights according to the BACP ethical framework for good practice and our services can be accessed from most areas in and around London, Essex, Kent.

We are happy to see clients for individual and group low cost counselling if called for, for all issues and problems or to improve well being. We also offer couples counselling and workshops to improve relationships.

Where we are unable to offer help we attempt to refer clients on to more specialist services and therapists. We aim to promote mental health and mental health issues in general.
