Trainee Placements with Phoenix Counselling Service

Look here if you are a trainee counsellor London area and for counselling students in Essex on a counselling course and seeking a training placement, require trainee clinical experience. We offer weekly client work suitable for counsellors and therapists using a range of approach - you will work in a supportive environment - we welcome applicants from a broad range of ethnic heritage and accommodate willingly diversity of approach - counsellors who train with us have the opportunity to develope their practice in association with Phoenix after completion of training - please read our trainee agreement before you apply then download an application form - next interviews end of March, 5.45pm on a Monday in Dagenham.

Applicants are welcomed from those on a recognised counselling training, college course in or near London and Essex, training to be a counsellor or psychotherapist, seeking a training placement. You will need to return an application form which can be downloaded HERE. Below is a copy of our current training agreement. 	Please note - Trainees see clients mainly at our Dagenham centre. You will need to be available each Monday evening in Dagenham for supervision - successful applicants would start seeing clients three or four weeks from their first interview.

If accepted for a placement you will be directly responsible to the Phoenix Counselling Service Administrator who will manage your placement. The Steering Group will act as the administrator’s line manager.

You are responsible for abiding by Phoenix Counselling Service policies.

In the first instance this means abiding by BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

You will abide by Phoenix Counselling Service’s Code of Confidentiality.

You will hold professional indemnity insurance.

You will arrange and receive personal therapy.

You will be in supervision, alongside others on a college course, with a Phoenix Counselling Service supervisor that satisfies BACP’s requirements. Currently supervision fees are £45 monthly in a weekly group, meeting in Dagenham on Monday evenings

You will complete client assessment forms and all paperwork requested by the Administrator.

You will be asked to see clients at our centre in Dagenham, appointments are between 9am and 9pm on weekdays; 9am to 1pm Saturdays.

You will be informed of Phoenix Counselling Service’s internal complaints and grievance procedure and abide by it.

Professional Development. You will be expected to attend termly professional training seminars arranged by Phoenix.

You can expect that Phoenix Counselling Service will act in a professional manner throughout your placement in accordance with the recommendations of BACP, we attempt to work in a complimentary way to your college training, the advice and approach of your college course.

Your progress will be monitored once supervision has commenced and initially you will be given one client who has been assessed as appropriate to your stage of training. Thereafter, given normal progress in your training, you can expect to work for up to 100 hours with clients in the first 18 months of your placement.

Supervision and placement manager reports will be provided at 6 monthly intervals, at no charge to you.

If Phoenix Counselling Service feels your progress unsatisfactory and decides to end your placement you will be given an account of our reasons for this course of action.

Recent trainees have completed courses at Havering, Barking, Enfield college - at UEL, Roehampton, Metropolitan & City University. We welcome referrals for a counselling placement from anyone on a college course, counselling students in Essex, London and nearby. On placement a counsellor, therapist will offer confidential counselling, abiding by the BACP, framework for ethical good practice, to patients, clients seeking brief therapy or long term counselling, low cost therapy, counselling at home, counselling for anxiety, loss, anger, stress, relationship problems low self esteem, all issues. Our service can be accessed from most areas of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham Redbridge, Waltham Forest, London, Essex In these circumstances we are happy to see clients for individual and group low cost counselling, if called for for all issues and problems. Where we are unable to offer help we attempt to refer clients on to more specialist services and we have a full complaints procedure in place as our BACP accreditation demands.
